Why air conditioning?

A more comfortable, efficient and healthier space.

Modern air conditioning does much more than simply cool a room. With both heating and cooling from one system, you get greater control over individual rooms, so you can heat the room you're actually using while having instant cooling available when temperatures rise.

Year-round comfort

Heating and cooling in one system, letting you set the temperature that feels right whatever the season.

Individual room control

Control the temperature of specific rooms rather than heating or cooling the entire property unnecessarily.

Air filtration

Many modern systems contain filters that help capture airborne particles such as dust and pollen as air circulates through the unit.

Energy efficient

Modern systems, particularly air-to-air heat pumps, can provide highly efficient heating as well as cooling when correctly designed and installed.

Add value to your property

Professionally installed climate control can be an attractive feature in modern homes, offices and commercial premises.

Types of air conditioning

Solutions for every space.

There isn't one system that works best everywhere. The size of the room, the layout, available wall and ceiling space, how the room is used and how visible you want the unit to be all affect which system is most suitable. We'll assess your property and recommend a solution that balances performance, practicality and appearance.

Wall-mounted units

One of the most popular options for bedrooms, living rooms, home offices and smaller commercial spaces. Installed at high level, they provide powerful heating and cooling while taking up very little usable space, and are more discreet than many people expect.

Floor / low-level units

A great alternative where a high-level wall unit isn't practical, or where a lower installation suits the room better, such as spaces with limited high-level wall space, unusual layouts or certain loft conversions.

Ceiling-mounted cassettes

Often used in larger rooms and commercial environments such as offices, shops, restaurants and open-plan spaces. They sit within the ceiling and distribute conditioned air across the room, making them powerful yet relatively discreet.

Ducted air conditioning

For an even more discreet finish, a ducted system hides much of the equipment within ceiling or concealed spaces, delivering air through discreet grilles. Particularly worth considering during renovations, extensions, new builds and larger commercial projects.

Domestic air conditioning

Make your home comfortable in every season.

Bedrooms that become unbearably hot in summer. Home offices that heat up throughout the day. Loft conversions that never seem to stay at the right temperature. Air conditioning can completely change how comfortable these spaces are, and because modern systems provide heating as well as cooling, they aren't just for a few weeks each summer. Air conditioning can be particularly useful for:

Bedrooms

Living rooms

Kitchens and open-plan spaces

Home offices

Loft conversions

Home gyms

Garden rooms

Cinema rooms and extensions

Outdoor air conditioning condenser unit
The outdoor unit

What is a condenser?

One of the biggest questions customers have is "where does the outside unit go?" Most standard split systems consist of an indoor unit and an outdoor unit, commonly referred to as the condenser. The outdoor unit forms part of the refrigeration cycle, moving heat between inside and outside depending on whether you're cooling or heating the room, so we need to identify a suitable external position for it as part of the installation.

Don't worry if you aren't sure where yours could go, that's part of what we're here for. During our assessment we'll look at the layout of your property and discuss suitable locations, considering practical requirements, appearance, airflow, access for future maintenance and manufacturer requirements.

Trusted air conditioning brands

Quality systems, installed properly.

The quality of an installation isn't just about the unit you choose, how that system is designed and installed matters too. JS Electrical Solutions works with established manufacturers including Samsung and Fujitsu. As registered installers for a number of manufacturers, we can offer eligible systems with enhanced or extended manufacturer warranty periods, subject to the manufacturer's terms and servicing requirements. We recommend equipment based on what actually suits the project, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Our workmanship warranty

Confidence beyond the equipment itself.

Manufacturer warranties generally cover the equipment, but we also believe you should have confidence in the quality of the installation. That's why we provide a warranty on our workmanship. We'll explain the relevant warranty arrangements for your chosen system as part of your quotation, including any servicing requirements needed to maintain manufacturer warranty cover.

Servicing & maintenance

Keep your system running at its best.

Just like other mechanical equipment, air conditioning benefits from regular servicing. Over time, filters and components can accumulate dust and debris. Routine maintenance allows the system to be inspected, cleaned where required and checked to make sure it continues operating correctly. Regular servicing can help to:

Maintain system performance and efficiency

Keep filters and components clean

Support good indoor air quality

Identify potential problems earlier

Reduce the likelihood of unexpected breakdowns

Help extend the life of the equipment

Meet servicing conditions attached to certain manufacturer warranties

What does an installation involve?

From first visit to first switch-on.

We want you to know what to expect before any work begins. Every property is different, but a typical installation starts with assessing the room or building and discussing exactly what you want from the system. We'll consider the size and use of the space, suitable indoor unit positions, potential condenser locations, pipe and cable routes, drainage and the electrical supply required.

Once we've designed the right solution, you'll receive a detailed quotation setting out the proposed work. On installation day, we'll fit the equipment, complete the necessary electrical and refrigeration work, test and commission the system and show you how to use it. Our aim is always a professional installation that performs properly while keeping the finished appearance as neat and discreet as the property allows.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, answered.

Can I have air conditioning in my home?
In many homes, yes. The first thing we need to establish is whether there are suitable locations for the indoor unit and the external condenser, plus a practical route between them. Every property is different, so rather than working it out yourself, get in touch and we'll assess the space and explain your options. Even if the most obvious position isn't possible, there may be another system or layout that works better.
Does air conditioning provide heating as well as cooling?
Yes. Most modern split systems we install can both heat and cool. In cooling mode the system removes heat from the room; in heating mode the process is effectively reversed and heat is transferred into the room. This means your air conditioning is useful throughout the year, not only in summer.
Does that mean I don't need to use my central heating?
Not necessarily. Air conditioning can provide efficient heating to individual rooms, so you may choose to use it instead of central heating at certain times, for example heating one room you're working in rather than the whole house. Whether it makes sense alongside or instead of your existing heating depends on your property, system and how you use your home.
What's involved in an air conditioning installation?
We'll first assess your space and work out the most appropriate size and type of system, then plan the position of the indoor unit, outdoor condenser, pipework, drainage and electrical connections. The exact installation varies from property to property, which is why we assess each job properly rather than quoting on room size alone. We'll explain what's involved before work begins.
What is the outdoor condenser and where does it go?
The condenser is the outdoor part of a typical split system, working with the indoor unit to transfer heat between your property and outside. It needs a suitable external location with appropriate airflow and access, which could be at ground level, on an external wall or in another suitable location. We'll assess the options and recommend the best position for your installation.
I don't want a big unit ruining the look of my room. Are there discreet options?
Absolutely, and we can consider this from the beginning. Traditional high-level wall units are only one option; depending on the property we can also look at low-level units, ceiling cassettes or concealed ducted systems. Even with wall-mounted systems, careful positioning makes a huge difference. Tell us what matters to you aesthetically and we'll take it into account.
Which type of air conditioning is best for me?
It depends entirely on the space. A wall-mounted unit might be perfect for one bedroom, while a ceiling cassette could suit an open-plan commercial space, and a major renovation might be the time to explore a concealed ducted system. We'll consider room size, layout, usage, aesthetics and budget before recommending the options we think will work best.
Can I have one system covering several rooms?
Potentially, yes. Multi-split systems can allow multiple indoor units to operate from one outdoor system, depending on the design and equipment. For larger homes and commercial properties there are other multi-room solutions too. If you're thinking about several rooms, tell us from the start, as designing the whole project together often produces a much better solution.
Are air conditioning systems noisy?
Modern systems are designed with noise levels in mind and many indoor units operate very quietly, particularly at lower fan settings, though ratings vary between models. If the system is going into a bedroom, home office or other noise-sensitive space, let us know and we'll take sound levels into account when recommending equipment and positioning.
How much does air conditioning cost?
There isn't one price that represents every installation. The cost depends on the type and number of units, capacity required, brand, pipework distances, electrical requirements, access and complexity. A single-room system is very different from a multi-room home or commercial installation, so we provide a detailed quotation based on your actual property and requirements.
How long does installation take?
This depends on the system. A straightforward single-room installation may be completed relatively quickly, whereas multiple units, concealed systems and larger commercial installations require more time. Once we've assessed the project, we can give you a much more accurate idea of the timescale.
Can you install air conditioning while we're renovating?
Yes, and a renovation can be an excellent time to consider it. If walls or ceilings are already being opened up, there may be more opportunities to conceal pipework, electrical supplies, drainage or even parts of the system. If you're planning an extension, loft conversion or major renovation, speak to us before everything is finished so we can explore the options.
Can you install air conditioning in commercial properties?
Yes. We provide air conditioning for both domestic and commercial properties, from individual offices and retail units to larger commercial spaces requiring multiple units, designing the installation around the needs and layout of the building.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. We provide a warranty on our workmanship for added confidence in the quality of your installation. We're also registered installers for a number of leading manufacturers, including Samsung and Fujitsu, so depending on the equipment and the manufacturer's current terms, eligible installations can benefit from enhanced manufacturer warranty arrangements. We'll explain exactly what applies to your system before installation.
Do I need to service my air conditioning?
Regular servicing is strongly recommended. It keeps the equipment clean, allows its condition and performance to be checked and can identify potential issues before they develop. Some extended manufacturer warranties may also require servicing at specified intervals. We provide ongoing servicing and maintenance, so we're not simply installing your system and disappearing afterwards.
How often should my air conditioning be serviced?
It depends on the system, how heavily it's used, the environment it's installed in and any manufacturer requirements. A domestic bedroom system used occasionally is very different from equipment running for long periods in a busy commercial environment. We'll advise you on an appropriate maintenance schedule for the equipment we install.
Does air conditioning improve air quality?
Air conditioning can help filter and circulate indoor air, and many modern units include filters designed to capture airborne particles. However, it shouldn't be treated as a replacement for appropriate ventilation or a dedicated air purification system where one is required. If indoor air quality is particularly important to you, let us know and we can discuss the features available.
Is air conditioning expensive to run?
Running costs vary depending on the system, temperature setting, size and insulation of the space, outdoor conditions and how often you use it. Modern inverter-driven systems adjust their output rather than running at maximum power continuously, helping maintain temperature efficiently. We'll make sure the equipment is correctly sized for the space, as the right system is an important part of efficient performance.
Do I need planning permission for air conditioning?
Not always, but there are circumstances where planning rules or other permissions can apply, particularly depending on the property, location, size and positioning of the outdoor equipment. Listed buildings, flats, leasehold properties and certain designated areas can require additional consideration, and landlords or managing agents may need to give permission. If you're unsure, we can discuss the proposed installation, although responsibility for obtaining any required permissions remains with the property owner.
